Who is Robert S. Mueller, III?
I have recently noticed tons of emails from FBI signed by Robert S. Mueller, III again. The first round of them happened about a year ago and now it is happening again. With all the media attention to this issue, you would think that the scammers would figure out that pretty much everyone out there knows about it (I assume).
The scammers send emails with subject lines such as “RE: Notice”, “Anti-Terrorist and Monetary Crimes Division!!!”, “Do contact Mr. James Smuts of the ATM CARD center with your details:” or anything else that may catch attention. Some emails contain instructions to provide some personal information so some funds from Nigeria could be transferred; some emails contain attachments in .txt or .zip format. Please do not download anything sent to you, do not provide anyone with your personal information and please do not click on any links provided in those emails. You may get yourself a nice little virus and/or your information will be used to commit a crime in your name or it could be sold.
FBI has issued numerous warnings about these types of emails. Please remember that FBI will never contact you by email!
Actually, just in case you did not know, Robert S. Mueller, III is a Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation since 2001. However, trust me on this one, he is not sitting at his desk sending mass emails instructing people to give out their confidential information. You can read more about Mr. Robert S. Mueller, III here.
If you have received emails from “FBI” or any other emails you suspect to be of criminal nature, please submit your complaint with the Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
