5 men named in racket that netted $4m in stolen card data


Prosecutors in Manhattan have named five additional men from Eastern Europe in an alleged scheme that pilfered $4m using more than 95,000 stolen credit cards.

Using handles such as “the Viver,” “Inexwor,” and “DoZ,” the men were part of an international conspiracy that reached half-way around the world to snatch the payment card credentials of people located in New York, according to prosecutors in Manhattan District Attorney’s office. Chicago woman charged in $50,000 McHenry Co. identity theft scam


A 30-year-old Chicago woman was behind bars Monday facing 20 felony charges alleging she stole more than $50,000 from a McHenry County man during a two-year identity theft scam.

Luevell Tracie Chester, of the 500 block of East 51st Street, faces six counts of aggravated identity theft, 13 counts of theft and a single count of financial institution fraud stemming from claims she gained access to the victim’s checking account and drained it to pay for a mortgage, mobile telephone and credit card bills.

LifeLock unveils new services after court ruling


LifeLock Inc. over the weekend rolled out plans to implement a new identity theft protection program in the wake of a judge’s ruling that it’s fraud alerts are not allowed.

The company said the new system will use technology, scientific modeling and data mining to protect its 1.5 million subscribers from identity theft, and can begin to identify possibilities before the thefts occur. Read the full story
