In one of my previous posts, I expressed my opinion about a free service called MyIDScore. (Read Here). I have mentioned in my post that I contacted MyIDScore in regards to my 310 id score while I was already an ID theft victim. Last night, I finally got a delayed response. I still think that the service is pointless and useless and, to me, nothing more than just a fun number guessing game.
Here is a response from MyIDScore, which would give you a better idea of how it works and the accuracy of their service. Again, I am only expressing my own opinion about it and in any way would I want to influence my readers to share my opinion. Try their service (I am glad it is free) and decide for yourself if it is worth your time.
Hello Lana. Thank you for your question. First, we want to make you
aware of a free resolution service for identity victims — the Identity
Theft Resource Center (website: www.idtheftcenter.org and phone: 888 400
5530). The ITRC is a well regarded, non-profit organization. Please let
them know you visited our website. They will know how to help you.We readily acknowledge that people with low identity scores can be
victims of identity theft. MyIDScore.com is a probabilistic assessment
of risk. Some people with a low identity score may be at risk of
identity theft and some with high identity scores may not be victims.
But, in the aggregate, people with high identity scores (600 or above)
are 16 times more likely than a typical consumer to be victims of a
identity theft. Individuals with scores of 750 are 64 times more likely
to be victims. We also note that our ID Network does not have universal coverage. No
service does. But by logging onto MyIDScore.com, consumers have the
opportunity to check their identity against a network of over 1 billion
consumer applications and 2 million known frauds (the largest that we’re
aware of). The network has significant visibility into applications for
credit cards, cell phones, and retail cards made in the United States on
a daily basis. No identity theft solution is a silver bullet. But we believe this site
gives consumers significant insight into their risk of identity theft
they otherwise would not have, and it complements other tools like free
credit reports that consumers can access. The FAQ section on MyIDScore.com gives more information about the site.
Please note FAQ 9, which says the following:9. If My ID Score is low, does that mean I am NOT a victim of
identity theft?
A low My ID Score does not mean you are not a victim of identity
theft. My ID Score is a probabilistic score. It assesses the likelihood
that an individual is at risk of identity theft. In general, people
with low My ID Scores are at lower risk of identity theft than people
with higher scores. But there are always exceptions. For example,
the ID Network(r) does not capture all types of identity theft such as
insurance or medical identity theft. We hope this helps. Please feel free to contact us should you have any
further questions.Best regards,
MyIDScore.com
Still do not know what the hoopla is all about. Some reporters are proclaiming it as “the new tool to prevent ID theft” or “new ID protection tool”, etc. Please! This is so misleading. Truly, I am glad the service is free. I would love to hear from those consumers, though, who found out about their ID theft through this service. Please leave a comment or email me.
