Identity Theft Prevention Tip: Opt-Out of Pre-Approved Credit Card Offers

Opting-Out of pre-approved credit card offers is generally a very good idea. Although it will not completely reduce the amount of offers you get, but you will notice a huge difference!

Identity Thieves love pre-approved credit card offers.  They get them when they go Dumpster Diving.  They fill out a credit card application, send it back to the bank, do a quick change of address, get the card, max it out and the victim is one who is left with the bill.

To reduce the amount of pre-approved credit card offers you receive and possibly reduce the chances of becoming a victim of identity theft, you should op-out of all marketing lists sold by the credit bureaus.

You may do so online at optoutprescreen.com or by calling 1-888-5-OPT-OUT (888-567-8688). You can opt-out for the period of 5 years or permanently.

The amount of pre-approved credit card offers you receive will be dramatically reduced.  You will see a difference in about 90 days.

Because the credit bureaus sell marketing lists to various companies that resell that data, it might be impossible to completely stop all offers.

Have you opted-out of pre-approved credit card offers yet?  Leave a comment.
