Four Emporians were among 15 people arrested this week in Jackson County as part of a state investigation into identity-theft crimes.
“Operation Imposter” was a joint effort of the Kansas Department of Revenue’s Criminal Investigation Unit and the Kansas Attorney General’s Office. The investigation targeted people using stolen identification documents to obtain Kansas driver’s licenses.
Each of the suspects from Emporia was charged with identity fraud, forgery, and unlawful use of an ID. Identity fraud and forgery both are Level 8 felonies; unlawful use of an identification card may be either a Level 9 felony or a Level B misdemeanor.
