I am back!

I have not posted on my blog for about a week now.  I had a little set back in my own identity theft case and was, actually still am, dealing with one creditor who is absolutely oblivious to the facts.  I do understand that they want to recover their money, but I do feel they really should investigate this matter. Avoid the “Work-At-Home” Scams!

Avoid the “Work-At-Home” Scams!

As a recruiter, I come across many different people and many different stories.  Some are impressive, some-offensive, some-compelling and some really touch my heart.

Recently, I interviewed a very young man, let’s call him John Doe.  About 20-22 years old.  His story really touched my heart.  I interviewed him early in the morning; he came to the office before I did.  Sometimes, I get a little grouchy when my interviewees come in before I do; however, I was in a particularly good mood that morning.   I will omit the details of how I conduct my interviews and will simply tell you what exactly had an effect on me. Identity Theft and your Credit

Identity Theft and your Credit

When someone is using your information for financial gain, your credit may be affected.  There are cases in which the thieves ran up the credit card bills, took on mortgages, and got deep into debt without your knowing. Then, when they found themselves unable to repay the debt, they filed for bankruptcy or their home got foreclosed, in your name, of course.  There are cases in which the victim did not know about the fraud for many years and the only reason the victim found out is because the victim got rejected after applying for a loan.   Or after checking a credit report, or when they started receiving collection notices.  Read the full story

How Much Is Your Information Worth?

How Much Is Your Information Worth?

A while ago I published a post “The Creative Scam Artists” in which I was wondering about how the thieves were obtaining our personal information and how they come up with their scam ideas.  Well, after some extensive research, I found out that, yes, indeed, the thieves HAVE manuals, how -to guides, tutorials, advice, scam ideas, attack kits, etc. Read the full story

Phoenix Mercury and LifeLock! Scandalous or a Smart Decision?

Phoenix Mercury and LifeLock! Scandalous or a Smart Decision?

Phoenix Mercury and LifeLock

Phoenix Mercury sold the naming rights on their uniforms to LifeLock, an identity theft protection company.  The LifeLock logo will appear in the front center of the uniform jersey.  Phoenix Mercury logo will appear on the upper left portion of the jersey.

It is believed to be one of the most lucrative sponsorship deals in the WNBA.  It is a 3 year seven figure deal.

LifeLock was formed in 2005 and is considered to be a leader in the identity theft prevention industry.

Any comments on this strange news?  So far it has created a lot of controversy.  What do YOU think?

What is Identity Theft? Really, What is it?

What is Identity Theft? Really, What is it?

I write plenty here about Identity Theft, but I feel I should delve into this term a little bit deeper.  What is Identity Theft?  Really, What is it?

A Legal Definition of Identity Theft per Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003, Identity Theft Means:

“… a fraud committed using the identifying information of another person.” 16 CFR §603.2 Read the full story
